The Karnataka State Government has taken a strategic step to energize the textile and apparel manufacturing landscape in North Karnataka by significantly reducing land allotment prices at the upcoming Ballari Jeans Park. The initiative aims to revive the region as a key denim manufacturing hub and attract investment from garment and textile firms looking for cost-effective operational bases.
In a major policy move, the government has halved plot prices within the jeans park — from the earlier ?1.35 crore per acre to approximately ?67.5 lakh per acre. This significant reduction is expected to make land more accessible to small and medium textile enterprises (SMEs) as well as larger garment manufacturers.
Industries Minister M B Patil described this pricing revision as a decisive step toward strengthening the region’s industrial ecosystem. He highlighted that the policy will not only boost industrial expansion and job creation, but also provide a substantial economic uplift to the local population.
The state government is reportedly considering inviting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to formally inaugurate the Ballari Jeans Park — a move signaling political backing and national attention to the project. While details are still being finalized, Gandhi’s association with the inauguration could further raise the project’s profile and boost investor confidence.
Ballari — historically known for its denim and jeans washing units — has faced operational challenges over recent years, including infrastructure limitations and unit closures due to environmental and water issues. Establishing a modern, well-planned jeans park is intended to consolidate manufacturing facilities, attract newer technology adoption, and elevate the region to a formal industrial hub.
By creating a dedicated apparel and textile zone with competitive land pricing, the Karnataka government hopes to lure domestic and foreign textile players. This initiative aligns with the broader Textile and Garment Policy 2025–30, where the state aims to position itself as a premier destination for garment manufacturing and exports.
Industry analysts believe that the reduced plot costs combined with improved infrastructure will lead to a multiplier effect across Ballari’s economy:
Increased manufacturing activity from MSMEs and larger firms
Job creation in apparel production, machine maintenance, logistics, and allied services
Development of ancillary industries such as dyeing, finishing, and textile engineering
Boost to exports through a clustered manufacturing ecosystem
Sector stakeholders have welcomed the move, seeing it as a pivotal moment to reinvigorate Karnataka’s textile sector and enhance competitiveness in both domestic and international markets.
