In a move poised to strengthen India’s textile manufacturing landscape, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has constituted a specialised nodal committee to expedite the implementation of Phase-2 of the PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Park in Amravati.

What the Nodal Panel Will Do

The newly appointed panel, featuring a Deputy CEO and Chief Engineer, has been tasked with:

  • Preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Phase-2;

  • Securing all necessary clearances and permits from state and central agencies;

  • Managing marketing, publicity, and outreach initiatives to attract investors and brands;

  • Coordinating with the Central Project Management Committee (CPMC) and other approval bodies involved in this national textile scheme.

About the Amravati PM MITRA Textile Park

The Amravati Textile Park, Maharashtra’s only project under the PM MITRA initiative, is being developed as a brownfield expansion investment of ?1,492 crore. Spread across approximately 1,020 acres, it is designed as an integrated textile manufacturing ecosystem that will house yarn production, processing units, apparel manufacturing and related infrastructure.

  • Phase-1 has already been implemented over 900 acres of land.

  • Phase-2, covering about 1,000 acres, will further enhance capacity and attract new units.

Job Creation and Industry Impact

Industry stakeholders estimate that the park’s full development could generate up to 200,000 direct and indirect jobs, providing a major employment boost to the Vidarbha region’s textile ecosystem. VIA (Vidarbha Industries Association) president Prashant Mohota highlighted that this expansion will act as a “lifeline” for textile entrepreneurs and ancillary units in the region.

Strategic Importance

The PM MITRA scheme, supported by the central government, aims to build world-class textile infrastructure across multiple states to:

  • Strengthen India’s export competitiveness;

  • Promote integration across the textile value chain; and

  • Attract both domestic and foreign investment in manufacturing.

Phase-2 of the Amravati park is widely seen as a key development to help Maharashtra compete with other textile hubs across India, especially as industry players look to diversify beyond traditional clusters and respond to global demand shifts.
