Bangladesh continues to strengthen its position in the global natural fibre market, with jute exports reaching an impressive number of countries. According to the country’s Textiles and Jute Minister, Bangladesh currently exports jute goods to 138 countries and raw jute to 30 countries, reflecting the growing international demand for eco-friendly fibres.
The minister highlighted that jute remains one of Bangladesh’s most important export commodities, contributing significantly to the textile and agricultural economy. The wide global reach includes major markets such as China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, India, and several European and Asian nations.
In terms of volume, Bangladesh exported around 42,039 metric tons of raw jute in the 2024–25 fiscal year, while exports between July and February of FY 2025–26 stood at approximately 22,850 metric tons.
The export of jute products has also shown strong performance. The country shipped nearly 7,51,739 metric tons of jute goods in FY 2024–25, while the ongoing fiscal year has already recorded exports of over 4,09,366 metric tons in the first eight months.
Officials believe that the rising global focus on sustainability and biodegradable materials is driving demand for jute-based products such as bags, carpets, and industrial textiles. As countries shift away from plastic and synthetic materials, jute is emerging as a preferred alternative due to its biodegradable, durable, and eco-friendly properties.
Bangladesh, which is one of the world’s leading producers and exporters of jute, is leveraging this trend to expand its footprint in international markets. The government is also promoting diversification in jute products to include value-added goods, aiming to increase export earnings and create employment opportunities within the sector.
Experts say that with continued innovation, policy support, and global sustainability trends, Bangladesh’s jute industry is well-positioned to witness sustained growth in the coming years.
